Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

Over the course of his long career, David Maples has worked as an actor ("For Richer or Poorer"), producer ("Huff"), and writer ("In Plain Sight"). Maples got his start with a brief writing gig on the quirky, animated Nickelodeon series "Rugrats" and later worked on several episodes of "Home Improvement," a sitcom centered on hapless TV show host and easygoing father Tim Taylor (played by his "Poorer" co-star Tim Allen) and his rowdy but loving family. In 2000, he joined the writing staff of the award-winning children's show "Teacher's Pet," created by contemporary artist and illustrator Gary Baseman and featuring Nathan Lane as the voice of Spot, a clever dog who, disguised as a young boy, enrolls in the 4th grade and becomes the title star pupil; he later lent his voice to a minor role in the 2004 big-screen adaptation, which featured Kelsey Grammer as the mad scientist who drives the film's "Pinnochio"-inspired plot. That same year, he became a producer on the short-lived series "Huff," which chronicled a successful psychiatrist's (Hank Azaria) mid-life crisis.
