After studying drama at Columbia University, Jared Martin began his career in film playing Chris in his college roommate Brian De Palma's crime comedy "Murder à la Mod" (1968). The following year he appeared in the comedy "The Wedding Party" (1969), another early De Palma film, featuring Robert De Niro in his first screen role. After a string of TV appearances, Martin was cast in several episodes of the cop drama "The Rookies" (ABC 1972-76), playing various parts over the course of the series, followed by a starring role as Varian on the sci-fi series "The Fantastic Journey" (NBC 1977). In 1979 he landed his breakthrough role as Steven Farlow on the soap opera "Dallas" (CBS 1978-1991), a role he continued until the series' end.. During this time he also landed the part of Harrison Blackwood on the sci-fi series "War of the Worlds" (syndicated 1988-1990). Martin was also cast in small parts in B films such as "Quiet Cool" (1986) and "Karate Warrior" (1987) throughout the '80s. All but leaving acting after the end of "Dallas," Martin did perform as the narrator in Joey Grossfield's short "The Sun Is One Foot Wide" in 2003. Jared Martin died of pancreatic cancer on May 24, 2017. He was 75. ...
