  Obviously, someone warmed up to him. You don't have a career in motion pictures, or anywhere for that matter, this long unless you're successful. He is DEFINITELY underrated.

• Dane Clark - Enough with the Comparisons

  Dane Clark is very much underrated, maybe because of comparisons to John Garfield, but they are two seperate people, Dane Clark was not trying to copy Garfield, he was his own actor. Anyway, John Garfield was not like anyone so comparisons don't really make sense, they were some publicity thing maybe. What Dane Clark can do in his performances so well (among other things), is show a lot of emotions at once. At the end of, "Paid to Kill," for instance, in one moment, he is betrayed by a close friend, has his heart broken by someone he loves, is facing a gun, gets clearity about where a friend disappeared too and finds out who has been trying to kill him, which is a lot to go through in a few moments. We would still be able to know all of those things were going on, even if the camera had never left Dane Clarks face. He was a lot different than garfield so the comparrisons were not fair. Dane Clark did some great Film Noir, of course, I don't know if he would be so unappreciated if these films were more available or at least shown. People know him as that goofy character in,"Hollywood Canteen," but he really was great for Film Noir. I can barely stand him in, "Hollywood Canteen," myself. If you like Film Noir and you have not seen it, you should see Dane Clark in, "Whiplash," it's a doozy of the genre and it was such a perfect role for Dane Clark. It would be hard not to under appreciate him after seeing that movie. addie B)

• Movie goers and I never warmed to Clark

  I watched Bette Davis in A Stolen Life, which Dane Clark plays an obnoxious artist. I couln't wait for his scenes to finish. Perhaps his buddy John Garfield should have told him that he was never going to become a star, instead of encouraging him. He was a credible supporting actor playing wounded GI with Garfield, and as fellow GI on leave with Dennis Morgan. But there was always something about his performances that made me wish someone else was cast.
