"Everything he does is a little off-center. He'll find just the right part, and I think it'll be comedy. He's Cary Grant. It's just that he's been hampered by his handsomeness. He's so goddamn good-looking it makes you sick."---Robert Altman on Gallagher's style quoted in US, October 1993.
"I always thought that if you do good work in small roles, then larger ones would follow. But maybe it will take 20 years rather than 10 for it to happen that way for me."---Gallagher on why he has not achieved movie stardom in The New York Times, October 24, 1993.
"Peter can humanize a character so you don't agree with what he's doing, but you don't condemn him either."---director Steven Soderbergh quoted in "He's So Good at Playing the Bad Boy", New York Newsday, April 24, 1995.
Q. How do you view your career?
Peter Gallagher: Every 10 minutes or so it seems so-and-so is the next big thing. When you're young, it breaks your heart to be the one left out. You think, what do you have to do? I don't take it personally anymore. I'm not a household name, but I feel like I've been blessed to participate in movies like 'sex, lies and videotape' and 'The Player' that will survive.
---From US, December 1997.
"I find when people are talented, they have more in common with people three times their age who are also talented than they do with people who just happen to share the same number of years. It really has to do with how they view the world, and the particular gifts they were endowed with."---Gallagher to Venice Magazine, October 2004.
