Georges Annekov worked in Soviet theater before turning to German and French films. He provided the costumes for Murnau's "Faust" (1926), Anatole Litvak's "Mayerling" (1936) and two features directed by Jean Delannoy, "L'Eternal retour" (1943) and "La Symphonie pastorale" (1946). Annekov also wrote two books, "Dressing the Stars" and a biography of Max Ophuls (with whom he collaborated on four films, including 1950's "La Ronde" and 1955's "Lola Montes").
