Outstanding character player usually cast as mature business executives, police or military officers, who was member of Orson Welles' Mercury Theater and was featured as the dying voice of the last human reporter on Welles' famous radio production, "War of the Worlds" (1938). Collins was memorable as Boss Jim Gettys in "Citizen Kane" (1941) and as Lieutenant Arthur Tragg on TV's "Perry Mason" (1957-65).
