"Enchanted Island" is an attempt to capture the flavor of a south seas adventure with danger in the background. Unfortunately it fails to capture the paradise of a Shangr-La type of experience or the exotic South Pacific. (Abner Dubbins) Dana Andrews and (Tom) Don Dubbins jump a whaling ship in order to establish a new life of freedom. Unfortunately the island they choose is inhabited with two tribes,Typee (bad) man-eaters and the Happars ,good people. Dana and Ton find the good people and a love interest in (Fayaway) Jane Powell. Now as far as casting goes these two actors are totally wrong for this film. Now the drama ensues whrn the Capt. of the whaling ship wants his crew members back and uses various devices to obtain them. The reference in the title of the review to Uncle Toms Revenge is an obscure attempt to tie the diapprarance of Tom the sailor to Uncle Tom slavery. Tom is murdered so he gains ultimate freedom and Abner is left to find paradise among the ruins. No enchantment and little drama or adventure. They really needed more rewrites.2 stars out of 5.

In the last few scenes of this movie, a character appears who looks exactly like Harrison Ford. He is the skipper of a small boat that is put out to rescue stranded islanders. He only has 2 or 3 lines, but he looks, acts, moves and speaks exactly like Harrison Ford. H Ford is not in the cast. Perhaps someone has the answer?

  • Nothing "Enchanted" about this movie

This is not the worst movie I have ever seen but it is close... Every player in this cast was not right for the part except maybe for the guy who played Tom. Lucky for Tom that they killed and ate him otherwise he too would have been on screen long enough to become laughable. If zero stars is allowed to be a rating, that is what this movie deserves. I will choose to remember Dana Andrews for "The Best Years of our Lives" and leave it at that. No others from this cast are worth remembering at all and I regret the time spent watching this horror. It is time I can never get back.Nothing here is classic... Melville wrote better whale tails than this.
