Terrific film, today, it is hardly far-fetched; in fact, it seems very, very "real". Phillips Holmes heads an exceptional cast and gives one of his best performances.

It is rare that a movie portrays political corruption in a manner that is true to life. With the recent conviction of two Family Court Judges in Pennsylvania for secretly owning a private juvenile detention center where they profited from every juvenile who they sentenced to incarceration the corruption depicted in this this movie is not too far fetched. The characters are not multi-dimensional. The dialogue is well written and engrossing. The direction, acting and editing are almost masterful. The character of Judge Moffett, the corrupt judge is thrilling. This is one of the most intelligent and entertaining depictions of political corruption in a movie that I have ever seen. Highly recommended.

  • Is that Paul Newman?

Very formula corruption film, with Walter Huston playing the bad guy for once. What is really striking is the actor playing "Mike", the husband of the young woman sent to jail. If he isn't a 'dead ringer' for Paul Newman, with the way he expresses himself, the way he moves, etc., I've never seen one. Obviously, he is not Paul Newman, but he could have been (in another life??!).

Walter Huston played many a loathsome character in his day, but with the possible exception of his hypocritical preacher part in "Rain", his role in this one is the plague flea on the rat. I've watched many hundreds of pre-codes over the past few years, and for sheer dramatic punch "Night Court" has got to be in the top ten. The ending in its own way is as perfect as "Casablanca"'s, and it isn't even hinted at until it happens almost out of nowhere.

  • Night Court is fantastic, one of the best.

For the time period that this film was made it was great. I watched it this morning while getting ready for work and whenever it comes on I watch it. Walter Houston is great as the corrupt judge and Phillip Holmes is wonderful to watch(so sad that he died at such a young age, and hope that you will show more of his films). What can you say about Anita Page, she plays the innocent victim so well. I am a fan of movies made during that time and this is one of the best.
