This movie features the phoniest looking beards you'll ever see. Was Ted dating a middle school art teacher at the time?

I first saw this when I was fifteen this with the North and South miniseries led me to a 15 year fascination with the civil war I think everybody should see this film in school It has great moments of drama chock full of the best civil war battle scenes that have been commited to film (believe me I have seen almost every civil war film ever made) The cast does a good job all around and some of the sceneswere actually filmed were they took place Picketts charge for one This film along with the prequel Gods and Generals is being released on Blu Ray in extended directors cut
A Huge Disappointment
This movie should have been fantastic, but is one of the most miscast movies I've ever seen. Martin Sheen is abominable as Robert E. Lee, and to choose Jeff Daniels as Joshua Chamberlain is criminal. Poorly written and acted. The only thing worth watching is the battle scenes, but even they can't save this horrible production.
Sad story, hard to believe it's so close to reality, but it is so.
A Civil War Movie That You Wont Forget
I remember this movie as one of the best Civil War movies I have seen on the big screen.Growing up in the South ( NC) as a kid in the early 60`s, I still remember conversations of the war as if it happened last month or last year.It is war never forgotten. No matter the PC way of life now-this movie treats each side with equal treatment. Its a long movie,so get some popcorn,a drink, and enjoy a great movie of our past history. Excellent Movie!
Extremely well researched to be historically accurate, and performed and filmed in an outstanding manner. This is the "Gettysburg" that needs to be converted into Blu-Ray, and it needs to be done in the best manner possible.
