I saw this film at the theatre when I was 11 and have wanted to see it again all these years! Please play it on TCM & release it on DVD!

  • An underrated, underwater family classic!

A far better family adventure than, say, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" or "Bedknobs and Broomsticks," yet most people haven't even heard of this film, which is truly a shame. I first saw it on TV as a kid and loved it, and I watched it again recently and loved it just as much! And it became an instant classic with my family, who saw it for the first time! Tony Randall, Janet Leigh, and Jim Backus are great in this film, which has witty and heartfelt dialogue, adventure and suspense, and catchy songs with groovy music. And Roddy McDowell is an absolute treat as the "far out" record producer. The two dolphins in the movie are amazingly lovable, and save the family more than once. How they did the tense scene where the dolphins fend off the swarm of sharks by butting them in the head repeatedly I don't know. No CGI or mechanical sharks in this film, just fantastic underwater stuntwork! Also cute is the sea lion, Gladys. The ending kind of leaves you hanging, with the whole Navy on alert sub-plot, but maybe a sequel was being planned. But I'm not complaining ... TCM should show this movie more often and it needs to be re-released on DVD, as most online stores say it is currently unavailable and I missed my chance a couple of years ago.
