I first read this book in the early sixty's, and since then I have read all his novels except his book of poetry. One of the characters in The Tall Stranger had my name (Wes Freeman) I also took a trip from San Diego to Alabama for a visit and decided to stop off at Four corners on the way back. I wanted to see the town of shalako that I thought he was building there. But there was a problem with local legal matters and it was never built. Was a nice trip anyway. I think Flint was my favorite book and Last of The Breed because my youngest Son is a Fighter Pilot in the USAF. I sent him that book a few years ago. I would have enjoyed meeting Louis, because he was truly a man to ride the river with.

I sure wish UCLA would restore this film - it's not a biggie BUT fellow St. Louis, MO native Viginia Mayo should be viewed as she was meant to be viewed!
